“Body, Heal Thyself.”
Acupuncture is commonly regarded as a treatment for pain relief. However, it is a comprehensive health care model that can treat a wide number of complaints and ailments, including:
- Stress reduction
- Joint pain
- Headaches and migraines
Today, the Center of Medical Arts provides acupuncture therapy as part of our total wellness package. Acupuncture, both an art and a science, was developed in China more than 3,000 years ago to restore and maintain balance in the body, supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Acupuncture works by affecting the body’s vital energy or bioelectrical system called qi. The qi travels along various pathways called meridians and through the body’s organ systems. Disease or disharmony results when the flow of the qi is disrupted or there is an imbalance in one of the organs or meridians. Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles at various points along these channels to regulate the flow of qi.
Acupuncture benefits include:
- It’s safe and has virtually no side effects
- Treats the underlying cause of pain or illness, as well as the symptoms
- Helps to prevent illness and promote well-being
- Supports health on all levels by treating the body, mind and spirit
- Easily incorporated into your existing health care practices
Does It Hurt?
Since there are a lot of misconceptions about acupuncture, CMA would like put your mind at ease. Acupuncture needles are thin, solid, made of stainless steel, sterile and designed for only one treatment. Chances are you won’t even notice the needle insertion, and if you do, it will feel only like a small pinch. Once the needles have been inserted, you’ll feel of warmth, perhaps a comforting tingle…most people feel a deep sense of relaxation while some even fall asleep. After the treatment you may feel calm, relaxed, centered and energized.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
That depends on several factors, including the severity of the condition, how long you’ve had the symptoms, and your overall health. CMA recommends a minimum of four treatments, after which you should begin to see results. For others, weeks or even months of treatment might be necessary to achieve the desired results. As symptoms improve, fewer visits will be needed.
