Direct Access to Physical Therapy Care

Direct Access to Physical Therapy Care

WHAT IS DIRECT ACCESS?

In the State of Connecticut the DIRECT ACCESS legislation was passed allowing licensed Physical Therapists (PT) to evaluate and treat patients without first seeing a physician. The Physical Therapists at The Center of Medical Arts are experts in evaluating a patient’s musculoskeletal condition; and if appropriate, safely and effectively treating the patient. Physical Therapists are highly-trained health care professionals, educated at the doctoral level with extensive clinical training and have a proven track record of effectively treating millions of patients. We are also well qualified to recognize when patients demonstrate conditions that should be evaluated by other health care professionals and when necessary, we will suggest referral to other providers, i.e., physicians. With your permission we can send the results of our examination to your physician to assure good communications and a positive treatment outcome.

What to Expect on your Initial Physical Therapy Consultation @ CMA physical therapy.

At CMA your first visit will include an evaluation by one of our skilled Physical Therapists. The examination will identify your current and potential problems. Based on the results of the examination, and considering your specific goals, a Physical Therapist will design a plan of care to include specific interventions and will propose a timetable to achieve these goals. The PT will provide you with instructions on how to perform home exercises and self-management techniques to facilitate your recovery. You should feel comfortable asking your PT any questions regarding your treatment plan, including giving us specifics regarding your expectations.
